Macedonian interior minister is Covid19 positive

Macedonian Interior minister Oliver Spasovski who is close aid of the Prime Minister Zoran Zaev has announced that he has been infected with the coronavirus.



“Despite full respect for the anti-covid measures I undertake regularly for my personal protection and protection of my associates since the beginning of the pandemic, I am Covid19 positive“, the minister reported via Facebook.

Spasovski informed he has soft symptoms of Covid19 but his health condition is good. He was immediately isolated.

The minister yesterday participated in an online Congress of his Social Democratic party where he was in close contact with several top members of the Macedonian government including the Prime minister Zaev.

On Monday Spasovski was part of UN related event together with other governmental officials and foreign diplomats in Skopje.

Until September Spasovski was filling in as „technical“ Prime Minister of Macedonia due to a party agreement which says that during the election period the head of the party in power cannot be head of the government.

For the time being there is no information if any other party or government official is going to be isolated following the case of the Macedonian minister od interior.

More than 27,000 people have been infected and more than 900 have died as a consequences of coronavirus in Macedonia since the beginning of the pandemic.
